How to Train and Retain Great Principals in Struggling Urban Schools

5 comments:

  1. 4 Things Great Principal's Need

    1) They have to have a vision for the school and how it can serve all of the kids that are in it.

    2) They have to create a culture that values education.

    3) They have to share leadership with the other teachers in the school community.

    4) And perhaps the most important thing, from what the research tells us, is a principal needs to concentrate their time on improving instruction in the classroom, because that's the thing that makes the most difference for the kids.

    1. Great resource. I especially liked the leadership coach as a new school leader. I would love to have a coach in my first year or two.

    2. I agree Renee! You'll want to watch for the reports done by the Wallace Foundation...they do exceptional studies on the role of the principal.

  2. What an amazing report. I'm with Renee in the fact that having both great instructors as well as a leadership coach to guide and mentor in those first few years would be beneficial. Having that support could be a key element for success as a new principal.
